Bennie is from a puppy mill in Missouri, where there are many....like Pennsylvania it is over run with puppy Mills. When he was a tiny pup he
was to be killed because his joints were malformed. Thats when Bennie came to live in NYC. Once Bennie started to grow signs of something
much worse started to show. A neurological disorder called Chiari Malformation Syringomyelia.
Symptoms may vary widely among different dogs, but the earliest sign often is that the dog feels a sensitivity in its neck area, causing an
uncontrollable urge to scratch at its neck and shoulders excessively, particularly when walking or during other forms of exercise. This is due
to an increase in the pressure of the flow of cerebrospinal fluid through the central canal from the brain down the spinal column, causing the
central canal to expand and press against the nerves of the spinal column and creating the needle-like tingling which prompts the dog to
scratch.
As the disorder progresses, there usually follows increasingly severe pain around the dog's head, neck, and shoulders, causing it yelp or
scream. It is believed to be a neuropathic pain, probably due to disordered neural processing in the damaged dorsal horn. As the disease
destroys portions of the dog's spinal cord, the dog may experience so much pain that it may contort its neck and may even sleep and eat only
with its head held high. The dog may develop scoliosis, as a result. There may also be progressive weakness in the legs, so that walking
becomes increasingly difficult. Some dogs deteriorate to the point of paralysis
Bennie's first sign was a front leg cramp...this happened more and more often, he would cry in pain and then along with the cramp he got a
head tilt..plus a back leg thump...it got worse and we went back to the vet...several Vets over the first few months of symptoms before we
found out what was wrong.
But Bennie is doing well, he goes everywhere with me and has meds on time all the time, round the clock and is happy and playful and very,
very spoiled.

Duncan says: HEY what about me I need a coat too...and a toy and maybe a tee shirt or something else!!!
|

I held her in my arms the last time I sat at the computer, cuddled in my shirt, all 4 1/2 pounds
of her. Every once in a while she would sneeze up at me and then lick my nose, her long
white tails always waging. Every ones nose a good place to give many kisses.
Little was not yet 5 years old but she knew how to turn her tiny body to be picked up, how to
get an extra cookie and how to remind me the water bowl was not as clean as she might
like..........Little was a tiny girl filled with love and personality....unless you were one of the
other dogs disturbing her as she slept cuddled to my waist, cupped in my hand at
night......then she sounded like an angry Rottweiler.
Little woke us Wednesday morning at 2:15 AM having a seizure, one after the other till the
tiny dog we knew and loved was no more. We got her to the vet, double doses of Valium and
nothing could stop it, she was unresponsive in between seizures, her big eyes fixed and we
let her go to the rainbow bridge in the afternoon.
We got her ashes back the other day and placed them on a shelf with Mia and Joey's ashes,
placed her little pink collar and her two favorite pink lambs, her favorite toys near by.
We are sad and empty without her, our eyes are red and swollen. We hug our other guys and
keep them close, we will never be the same, See you again someday Little, we love you.

Rainbow Bridge It is called the Rainbow Bridge because of its many colors. Just this side of the Rainbow Bridge there is a land of meadows, hills and valleys with lush green grass.
When a beloved pet dies, the pet goes to this place. There is always food and water and warm spring weather. The old and frail pets are made young again. Those who are maimed are made whole again and they play all day.
There is only one thing missing. They are not with their special person who loved them on earth. So each day they run and play until the day comes when one suddenly looks up. The nose twitches! The ears are up! The eyes are staring! And this one suddenly runs from the group!
You have been seen and when you and your special friend meet, you take them in your arms and embrace. Your face is kissed again and again, and you look once more into the eyes of your trusted friend.
And you cross the Rainbow Bridge together, never again to be separated
